Remembering Jon Hall – A Wonderful Musician and Friend

For those that knew Jon Hall, or were aware of his contribution to Moray Jazz Club, it would not be appropriate to let this moment pass without reflecting on his all too short life – Below are a few words that have been compiled in memory of Jon – May he rest in peace.

Yesterday we said goodbye to Jon Hall, an outstanding musician, pianist and a much-loved and long-standing contributor to the musical life of Moray Jazz Club. Jon passed away on Friday, 2 October 2026. He will be fondly remembered by many musicians not only for his remarkable musical talent, but also as a dear friend and a truly kind man.

Jon served as Head of Music at Aberdeen Grammar School and was the founder and conductor of the Truly Terrible Orchestra. The wonderfully humorous name of the orchestra reflected his sense of humour and his love of making music with others. His musical interests spanned many genres, including jazz, blues, rock, folk and early music, although classical music remained his first love.

Jon’s funeral took place on Monday, 19 October 2026, at Wilkies Woods Green Burial Ground, near Findhorn. Jon will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those who had the privilege of knowing him – as a gifted musician, a valued friend and a truly kind-hearted person. Our heartfelt condolences go to Jon’s family and friends.
